Haiti - FLASH : VISA available for family reunification in Chile

Since Monday, July 2, 2018, Haitians in Chile with a legal status (regularized) can apply for a humanitarian visa for family reunification, confirmed the Chilean Chancellor Roberto Ampuero.

Recall that this measure was announced 3 months ago by the Chilean Conservative President Sebastián Piñera as part of a series of provisions to regain control over immigration https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24055-haiti-flash-chile-requires-a-visa-for-haitians.html

The quota is set for Haiti at 10,000 visas each year. For a period of 10 months, this visa is renewable once and then allows to apply for permanent residence in Chile.

Among the requirements each beneficiary of this visa will have to provide among others in his file: an extract of criminal record and a medical certificate ensuring that it does not carry infectious diseases (many diseases present in Haiti have been eradicated in Chile) .

The cost of this VISA within the International Organization for Migration (IOM in Haiti) is 73 US dollars and the delivery of the document by the Chilean Consulate in Haiti is 25 dollars extra.

The Chancellor said "The application process begins on Chilean soil, where the Haitian parent with legal status, must write a letter requesting family reunification. This letter must be certified in front of a notary. Subsequently, the parent in Chile once his letter has been received in Haiti, will have to communicate with the office in Port-au-Prince of IOM, the United Nations Agency that works with Chile in obtaining of this visa and in the verification of all local documents. "

This VISA has been criticized by the political opposition and by immigrant groups. Rodolfo Noriega, spokesman for the National Migrant Coordinator, described the annual quota of 10,000 annual humanitarian visas for Haitians as discriminatory, saying that "no limit has been imposed on other countries."
