Haiti - Petit-Goâve : A plural opposition with different objectives ...

The local branch of the opposition in Petit-Goâve is plural and composed of several heterogeneous groups, sometimes antagonistic. Although this opposition affirms "to defend the interests of the population" one can only note a certain divergence in the objectives pursued...

For example, the "kwalisyon òganizasyon demokratik" (KÒD) affiliated with the democratic and popular sector of Port-au-Prince and the organization "3 Voix", demand unconditionally the departure of President Jovenel Moïse.

The "Mouvman Jèn kap soufri" (MJKS), made up of young people from Parc Anglade, who had been protesting well before the last riots, is only pronouncing against the expensive cost of living.

The band of the city Eugène (Nan Percin) commonly called "Jèn Bò lopital" composed of young people who live near the hospital Notre-Dame, are deemed violent and close to the current Deputy of Petit-Goâve Germain Fils Alexander. They protest against misery and simply want President Jovenel to work in collaboration with local authorities, including the Deputy, instead of using a third party. For these young people, money and projects, everything must go through local elected officials.

Moreover, the band of the Cité Eugène no longer wants the presence of Rilnor Acao (close to the Deputy Germain Fils Alexander and Pierre Augustin the Spokesperson of KÒD), it accused of having collected funds in the name of the local branch of the opposition in Port-au-Prince. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25003-haiti-petit-goave-the-young-people-of-la-digue-and-those-of-nan-percin-at-loggerheads.html

In short, it is clear that the opposition to Petit-Goâve when it takes the streets, is far from unitary and is directed at a distance by different leaders. Most demonstrations are characterized by an amalgam of frustrations and real claims, but with different objectives.
