Haiti - Economy : SONAPI wants to attract new investments in the industrial sector

Monday Bernard Schettini, Director General of the National Society of Industrial Parks (SONAPI) recalled in the context of the 53rd conference of "Monday of the Press" that the SONAPI, created by decree in 1981, autonomous body of public law, under the Ministry of Commerce supervision that his institution currently manages two industrial parks : the Metropolitan Industrial Park (PIM) and the Industrial Park of Caracol (PIC).

The Industrial Park of Caracol (PIC) built on an area of 252 hectares, fully fenced, in operation since March 2012 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-6965-haiti-economy-idb-inaugurates-the-new-caracol-industrial-park.html includes 14 industrial buildings of 5,000 m2 to 11,800 m2, 4 dormitories for foreign workers and management staff and 5 national and international companies. According to Schettini, there are diversified investment sectors: clothing, paint, perfume, sisal products and building components. 14,000 employees (March 2018) work at the PIC, which achieved more than $ 525 million in exports (2012-2017) and required $ 246 million investment by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for its construction https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16117-haiti-economy-$41m-from-idb-for-caracol-industrial-park.html Learn more : https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14590-haiti-economy-the-caracol-industrial-park-in-figures.html

The Metropolitan Industrial Park (PIM) located in the commune of Delmas, built on an area 66 hectares fully fenced includes 53 buildings ranging from 1,700 to 3,250 m2 and 2 new buildings of 13,125 and 11,692 m2. The Park brings together 16 companies and provided approximately 11,000 jobs (May 2018). It includes diversified investment sectors such as clothing, wigs, electrical cable manufacturing, electronic equipment, painting, cardboard manufacturing, and more.

In terms of perspectives, Bernard Schettini explained that the administration of SONAPI worked to :

  • the establishment of a sub-commissioner to support the PIM;

  • the strengthening the security service, installing streetlights (support for the 3x8 law);

  • the installation of a surveillance camera system;

  • the construction of a shopping and convention center;

  • to the extension of the PIM & PIC;

  • the construction of a web site bringing together the two industrial parks;

  • at the launch of a quarterly magazine "SONAPI in relief" to promote the institution.

Regarding the extension project of the PIM, Schettini said that it will be a question of developing SONAPI's infrastructure capacity, to attract the maximum of investors in the clothing industry and to create 10,000 new jobs by the end of 2019. It should be remembered that Phase I of the extension project consists of the construction of 6 buildings, including two factories with a total area of 32,361 m2 and 1.9 km of roads and basic services. Phase II includes the construction of 5 buildings including three factories with a total area of 56,836 m2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23834-haiti-economy-moise-visits-the-extension-works-of-the-metropolitan-industrial-park.html
