Haiti - Environment : Let's grow the school garden !

The Haitian NGO "Promotion for Development" (PROMODEV), an organization committed to sustainable development in Haiti, encourages principals, teachers and parents to implement School Garden Project and Environmental Education activities in Haiti to the benefit of children. The NGO recalls that this project could contribute to the institutionalization of Eco-citizenship in Haiti and stresses that such a project will be profitable for the school and for the community.

As part of the implementation of the School Garden Project, PROMODEV offers the following content :

- School nurseries with fruit trees and forest trees;

- Floriculture;

- Breeding ;

- Environmental education / living environment and its components;

- Practical agricultural work;

- Field visit / Exploration agro-ecological visit.

The NGO specifies that a school that carries out the School Garden and Environmental Education Project, automatically becomes a member of the National School Garden Network and enjoys the following advantages:

  • Evaluation of the school space for the establishment of the school garden;

  • A conference and extracurricular training sessions for children;

  • A conference for parents;

  • A training workshop for teachers;

  • Mobilization of a Framework for the coordination and monitoring of the garden;

  • Technical assistance to the educational staff of the school and the gardener;

  • Support for agro-ecological visits to ecological sites across the country
