The National Statistical Office (ONE) of the Dominican Republic has revealed that in 2017, trade between the two nations of the island reached 852.53 million US dollars. During this period, imports from Haiti amounted to $ 36.31 million, a positive trade surplus for DR of $ 816.22 million.

"It should be noted that in 2017, Dominican exports to Haiti increased by 6.5% ($ 52.35 million) and 82.50% of goods were transported by road, while 17.44% by air and 0.06% by air," said Alexandra Izquierdo, National Director of ONE adding that exports from Haiti were made by road transport 98.04%, followed by martitime shipping 1.69% and by air 0.28%.

Main Dominican products exported to Haiti (2017) :

By road :

Cotton: 100.54 million (14.29% of the total exported by this route);

Plastics and manufactured goods: 92.40 million (13.14%);

Cast iron and steel: 54.96 million (7.8%).

Sea route :

Clothing and clothing accessories: $ 83.68 million (56.29% of the total transported by this means); Salt, sulfur, earth and stones, plaster, lime and cement: 27.07 million (18.21%);

Various food preparations: $ 12.66 million (8.52%).

By air :

Drugs: $ 0.41 million (79.79% of the total exported through this channel);

Paper and paperboard: $ 0.05 million (10.40%);

Boilers and machinery: $ 0.02 million (3.66%).

According to Miguel Vargas the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs Haiti is the 3rd largest trading partner of the Dominican Republic [year-on-year decline, with the 2014 export record of 1.4 billion dollars reached in 2014 because of the post-earthquake reconstruction.]
