According to the latest report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), 39 countries (31 countries in Africa, 7 in Asia and Haiti in America) still depend on United Nations assistance for satisfy their dietary needs.

According to the report, civil conflicts or extreme weather events (hurricane, drought etc...) prevent access to food for vulnerable populations

Last August, FAO warned of some of the world's underfunded crises that demanded a humanitarian response and emergency agricultural assistance, highlighting that Haiti ranked 4th among the most underfunded countries to strengthen food security and livelihoods of the people, out of about 40 countries in the world.

The FAO reminds that the majority of the Haitian population depends on agriculture and is exposed each year to major climatic hazards.
