Haiti - Elections : A Haitian citizen victim of a peacekeeper ?

The Ministry of Defense of Argentina has confirmed today, that a peacekeeper of its contingent in Haiti is involved in the death of a Haitian citizen, the event occurred during an armed confrontation at the time of the elections, last Sunday...

According to a military source, the incident would have occurred while the peacekeepers, as part of their mission, stood guard in front of a polling station in Artibonite. Band of men armed with guns attacked the polling station. Despite the summations of peacekeepers, the individuals would not have renounced to the armed confrontation. This is during a shootout confused, that the haitian citizen was wounded by a bullet. The victim would have received the emergency first care by the soldiers Argentinian, but would have died during its transport to the hospital of Saint Marc.

According to an official source, the Minustah has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and the origin of the fatal shoot. Argentina is participating in the Minustah since its creation by the UN in 2004 and the Argentinean contingent currently has 714 soldiers deployed to Haiti.
