Haiti - WEATHER : Tropical system to follow on the Atlantic

According to the National Hurricane Center of the United States (NHC), a large cloudy and stormy area that formed Sunday evening, near the Lesser Antilles to the northeast of the tropical Atlantic, associated with a tropical wave and a low-altitude trough moves to the west.

Rain showers and thunderstorms associated with this disturbance have multiplied and environmental conditions are expected to gradually deteriorate. The system is expected to move west-northwest over the next few days, passing near or to the north of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and South-East Bahamas.

Tuesday disorganized showers and some thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave is moving westward through the Leeward Islands. Strong high winds and interaction with the Greater Antilles islands should prevent the formation of a hurricane. However, regardless of its development, this system is expected to generate abundant rainfall locally in parts of the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico over the next few days.

Risk of a hurricane in the next 48 hours (low, 20%) over 5 days (average, 30%).

For its part in Haiti, the Alliance for Risk Management and Business Continuity (AGERCA) warns that the tropical wave should bring some heavy rainy activities on the country from Wednesday.
