Haiti - Economy : Launching in the West of program «Kredi Atè Plat»

On Thursday, at the Delmas Municipal Palace, President Jovenel Moïse launched the new "Kredi Atè Plat" credit program for the West.

The objective of this program, set up by the Ministry of Commerce, is to make credit accessible to 1,200 low-income beneficiaries in disadvantaged neighborhoods, 65% of whom are women.

In his speech, the Head of State reiterated his desire to democratize credit in Haiti and to ensure that each month, successively the same number as today can benefit from this same opportunity, stressing that this program is going to to increase the percentage of people with access to credit, especially women and young people, who will finally have access to formal financial services.

Ronell Gilles, the Minister of Trade and Industry, welcomed the Government's assistance to small entrepreneurs in all sectors. According to the Minister "Kredi Atè Plat" is an insertion strategy that offers opportunities to all sectors of the country wishing to move towards entrepreneurship.

Funded by the Treasury, this program aims to reduce financial exclusion in the country. After the launch of the first cohort in the West, "Kredi Atè Plat" will have wide coverage and will be implemented nationwide, in the areas of operation of financial service providers targeting poor households including in rural areas.

An amount of credit not exceeding 50,000 Gourdes will be allocated to each beneficiary with an interest rate of 5% per annum. It is planned in the protocol agreement between the MCI and the National Federation of Haitian Credit Unions (FECAPH le Levier), a grace period of 3 months and the lender will have up to 24 months to repay his credit.
