Haiti - Reconstruction : Towards an extension of the mandate of the IHRC ?

Three days after the publication of preliminary results of second round, the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) is meeting again today to Pétion ville. During this meeting of two days, workshops and plenary sessions, will allow to evaluate the work of the IHRC and to determine the future of this institution.

At the opening, in which the former President Bill Clinton was absent (he is expected in Haiti in the next few hours), Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive, Co-President of the Commission proposed to study the possible extension of mandate of 18 month of the IHRC which ends in October 2011, and this, before the installation of the new government on May 14.

Among other items on the agenda of the day: The financing of the projects of the IHRC, only 30% of the 5 billion pledged have been committed since the beginning of the work of the Commission in April 2010 - Identify the constraints of monetary flow in the relief of the country and accelerate progress to attain the objectives - Multi-sectoral aspects of Review Committee and the support provided by the Haitian Government to the IHRC - NGOs that duplicate government services and the lack of information on their activities - The expansion of the mandate of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) so that it is involved in the development of the country...
