Haiti - Social : Reconstruction of the drinking water system of Port-au-Prince

Six senior executives of Suez Environnement, the parent company of Seram direct since the beginning of the month the rReconstruction of the drinking water system of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti hit by earthquake in January 2010. Over a period of 3 years this contract valued at approximately €8 million is financed by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and the Spanish Agency for International Development (AECI).

"We work with thousands technicians of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA), with specific goals and substantial financial resources. With our skills, we must simultaneously prove that we can respond to emergency and back to Port-au-Prince a network of safe drinking water [...] to everyone without favoring certain neighborhoods," said Alexander Brailowsky, project manager for Suez.

"The challenge is huge [...] we face enormous difficulties, such as buried pipes under houses and concrete, incomplete plans, drilling to inspect, the old network on which the affected population has made connections and that it is necessary to rehabilitate [...] In a city of 3 million people where entire neighborhoods are still in ruins and that access to water is not easy for tens of thousands of victims, the site that opens is huge [...] We look to the long term, we are building with Haitians and we're committed to making no profit on this operation. The premiums of the team will be donated to the foundation Aquassistance, an association of international solidarity dedicated to water and the environment," concluded Alexander Brailowsky.

For the Seram and Suez Environment, the reconstruction site of the drinking water system of Port-au-Prince, is a great showcase if the objectives are achieved.
