Haiti - Justice : Jean Henry Céant and Yves Cristalin are claiming 250 million gourds...

The correctional court decided to hear, Wednesday, May 3, the case for violation of political rights between former presidential candidates, Jean Henry Céant et Yves Cristalin and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

The two former candidates accuse the members of the CEP to have violated their political rights during the first round of presidential elections on November 28, 2010, which was marked by widespread fraud and a big disruption that brought more than a dozen candidates on 18 to demand the annulment of the election.

The plaintiffs' attorney, Me Newton Saint Juste, was pleased that the court is seized of the matter, "a proof that no one is above the law [...] the process is ongoing and the word of the right will have to finally be told". Me Newton asks, on behalf of its clients, damage for an amount of 250 million gourds ... (± 40 gourds = US$1)

For his part, Me Stanley Gaston, the lawyer who represents the 8 electoral advisers and the Director General of the CEP, all accused, asserted that "the Law will triumph in this case", adding that he "will argue all the points in favor of its clients."
