Monday, May 6, the Town Hall of Cap-Haitien, together with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the international development NGO "GRET" of French origin, will kick off a collection project of waste in the Petite-Anse pilot area, a section of the commune.

Through this initiative funded by the World Development Bank (IDB), groups called Pre-Collection Organization (OPC), each composed of four people and organized according to a certain structure, will have to collect household waste from the duly registered households. The terms of payment must be defined in advance between the two parties, explained the project managers.

The OPCs, for their part, will transport the waste collected at the regrouping point, for a fee of 150 gourdes per "drue" and this point will be responsible for disposing of this waste in land used temporarily for this purpose.

On 2 May, the initiating organizations distributed uniforms and equipment to the members of the OPCs in order to facilitate their task.

Part of the money raised in this activity will be used to pay the staff of the OPCs, while the balance will be managed by the town hall, said officials of GRET.

In his intervention under the circumstances, the Deputy Mayor of Cap-Haïtien,

Ésaie Lefranc, the Deputy Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, hopes that this initiative will help change the image of the Petite-Anse area so that the partners can understand the need to extend it throughout the city.
