Haiti - Social : Post-result violence, one death and significant damage

Following the publication of the final results of the second round of presidential and legislative elections, published later in the evening by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), violence has exploded in Belladère [Centre Department] between supporters of the candidate Amos Duboirant (Aternative) given loser for the benefit of Luther King Emmanuel Macadieu (INITE).

The partisans of Alternative are accused of being at the origin of these violence during which the complex "Régie de Belladères" where housed among other : the sub-office of the County Department of Agriculture, the Domican Republic Consulate, the offices of Oxfam Canada has been burned. The response of supporters of INITE have prevented the burning of the Court of Peace.

It was during this violence on the night of Wednesday, that Felix Fils-Aimé, medical personnel working for the organization Zanmi Lasante, whose offices were in the complex which was burned, died in still unexplained circumstances. Several vehicles belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and NGO Zanmi, were also torched in the parking of the complex.

Violent demonstrations have also been reported in several other cities including Léogâne, Petit-Goâve and Grand Goâve Gonaïves. Several roads are blocked by burning barricades.
