Haiti - FLASH : Police stone a protester

Haiti - FLASH : Police stone a protester

On Sunday, in Pèlerin in the area where the residence of the Head of State is located, on the sidelines of the anti-government demonstration, a protester was stoned by police officers.

The scene that was recorded on video and broadcasted on the social networks, revolted the net users in front of the unbearable images of this new police drift. On the video, one seen a man on the ground, unable to react while men in uniform of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) throwing stones violently to him without being worried, then train their victim in blood towards another location.

For the moment, one are unaware of the identity of the police offciers involved in the stoning, the name of the victim, and whether it is still alive or dead.

Michel Ange Gédéon, the Director General of the PNH, informed of this barbaric incident, reacted the same day in a statement where he writes :

Note from Michel Ange Gédéon :

"On the occasion of the day of Sunday June 9th, the police institution did everything to manage the crowds with passion and professionalism. It thought she could give herself a complecit when we saw on social networks the video of a police officer maltreating a citizen lying on the ground.

Such practices do not do honor an institution that guarantees democracy and the rule of law and whose mission is to protect and serve. Consequently, the General Inspectorate of the PNH has been instructed to launch an investigation to identify the suspect police officer(s) and to apply the law and the regulations of the institution until the last rigor. They will be brought to justice according to the law.

The Directorate of the PNH reminds the police officers that the right to life of citizens is as important as freedom of expression and equality before the law because human rights are indivisible.

Force must remain the law."
