Haiti - USA : At age 103, a Haitian woman becomes an American citizen

On Friday, June 14, Flag Day, Andrea Joseph, a 103-year-old Haitian woman born on August 15, 1915 in Jacmel, Haiti, arrived in Florida (USA) as a permanent resident in 1988 became an American citizen.

Andrea Joseph was sworn in front of friends and family during a naturalization ceremony in Miami proving alongside 150 other people asking to become naturalized American citizens, that it is never too late to realize the American dream.

"We obviously didn't think this would ever come true. This is a great accomplishment for my grandmother [...] To have this happen today, on June 14th, we're excited and overjoyed by this achievement," said his granddaughter, Mildred Ogé.

District 2 Miami-Dade Commissioner Jean Monestime, a Haitian American from St. Louis North, also congratulated Andrea Joseph on her new citizenship.
