Haiti - Travelers NOTICE : France calls for the utmost caution

In its latest update of July 2019, the Quai d'Orsay advises travelers wishing to visit Haiti and French nationals in Haiti that :

Situation in Haiti :

The situation in Haiti remains uncertain and tense. Barricades can be erected on highways, especially on the road to Port-au-Prince International Airport. If you have to go to Haiti, be very careful. It is necessary to limit and adapt his movements accordingly.

Crime :

Due to an upsurge in gang activity in the Artibonite region, it is recommended to avoid the Verrettes zone, Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite, Dessalines, as well as the national road number 1 (RN1) between Saint Marc and Gonaives.

Overall caution in traveling :

In Port-au-Prince, neighborhoods in the lower part of the city, including Cité Soleil, Martissant and La Saline, should be avoided.

Outside cities, be aware of the risk of road blockages. It is advisable to inquire about the state of the road before any movement and not to force the barricades. [...]"
