Haiti - FLASH : No more longer Dominican Visa issued for the month of August

The Dominican Visa has become a very popular commodity, just see the long queue in front of the Dominican Consulate Petion-ville of applicants with their ticket required to apply for their visa. Secure ticket, issued free by the Consulate and valid for a few hours the same day, but they often had to buy 50 US dollars to snowshoers, when the Consulate has exhausted the amount provided per day.

Discretely the Dominican Chancellery has decided [of right], to limit to 3,000 the number of Haitian visas issued each month and if one believe the note posted this week on the consulate "The administration of the Dominican Consulate informs you that the Visa tickets are exhausted for this month. Thank you for your understanding," it only remains for frustrated applicants to wait in September for the new visa quota or go through a travel agency at a high price, while a Visa already costs $200 at the Consulate and more than 300$ to the racketeers.

Applicants who seek at all costs to obtain a visa for multiple reasons : further education, work, trade, health or transit through the neighboring Republic for another destination to a "better life" and whose frustration often requires the intervention of the National Police of Haiti, to avoid violent slippages and clear the access of the Dominican Consulate.

While most Haitian claimants resign themselves to wait until next September, others do not hide their intention to try to enter the neighboring Republic illegally, despite the risks and increased surveillance all along the Dominican border. Note that in July 2019, agents of the Specialized Corps of Border Security of the Dominican Republic (CESFRONT) arrested and repressed 5,970 Haitians who tried to enter the Dominican territory illegally on foot, by truck, by car or motorcycles, day or night...
