Haiti - Social : DR intensifies its controls, 1,720 Haitians deported in 8 days

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) intensified its migratory control operations in 13 Provinces: Azua, Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, Bonao, Espaillat, Sánchez Ramírez, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago, Valverde, Samaná, Santo Domingo (East and West municipalities) and the National District.

Over an eight-day period, 2,214 Haitians were screened, after verification through biometric readers and consulted with the DGM database, 1,720 (77.6%) Haitians were declared in an irregular migration situation on the Dominican territory and returned to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña to be registered and deported to Haiti.

Migration control teams were composed of inspectors, agents of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) with the support of the military, the National Police, the tourist police (CESTUR) and agents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Environment and Natural Resources in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned.

The DGM affirms that it will maintain the migration control operations of all foreigners living illegally throughout the Dominican territory, in accordance with the Migration Act No. 285-04, respecting the dignity and fundamental rights of migrants controlled and expelled, and by coordinating the repatriation of Haitian nationals with the relevant Haitian authorities.
