Haiti - FLASH : Upcoming increase of diesel price...

Tuesday at the National Palace President Jovenel Moise held an important meeting around the fuel scarcity that consumers have been experiencing since August 20th. A situation exacerbated by a black market or the price of precious fuel is selling up to 3 times the regular price and has provoked violent popular protests since 2 days that paralyze the entire economy...

Acting Prime Minister resigned Jean Michel Lapin at a press conference on Tuesday, said the government would consider a reduction in the subsidy on diesel, which will result in an increase in the price at the pump of this type of fuel, saying it is not an increase in the price of fuel but a downward adjustment of the subsidy, pointing out that diesel is a product usually consumed by agents who do not really need a subsidy. In addition, the gasoline subsidy will be maintained for the moment and the price will remain unchanged at the pump.

Regarding the scarcity of fuel, see the shortage in some areas, the Prime Minister Lapin announced that early Tuesday afternoon a first tanker had docked at the terminal Thor with aboard 146,000 barrels of gasoline. Wednesday, September 18, a second tanker will deliver 155,000 barrels of diesel. Lapin says that by Thursday there will be fuel available at all service stations and the situation will return to normal. Other arrivals of fuels in smaller quantities are still expected on 19 and 28 September, recalling that it is not the State that places orders but the private sector...

Jean Michel Lapin also announced that the State will make provisions so that this scarcity does not repeat itself. In addition, he said the executive is looking for the best formula for an adjustment of diesel and kerosene.

Jean Michel Lapin points out that the adjustment of the price of diesel will allow the State to cover up to 80% of the amount it has to pay to private companies without having to tap into its coffers, which will avoid cash flow problems of oil companies, which cause the reduction of fuel availability on the market.

Eddy Jackson Alexis Secretary of State for Communication said that this possible diesel price adjustment does not concern the arrival announced by the Government and that "reflections are in progress, which will determine when will it be necessary to provide an answer to the question of subsidy."
