Haiti - Crisis : The Mayor of Port-au-Prince wants to avoid foreign military intervention

In a letter dated 27 September signed by Ralph Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port au Prince and 11 of his colleagues including Rony Colin the Mayor of Croix-des-Bouquets, and Rosemila Little Frère Sainvil mayor of Arcahaie, ask the President Jovenel Moïse to resign in order to avoid the country's military intervention of foreigners.

The mayors who signed this letter say that nothing more work in their communes since the aggravation of the political crisis : schools, public markets, dispensaries, etc...

Moreover, Jude Edouard Pierre, the President of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH) and Mayor of Carrefour, in a statement, expressed concern over the worsening of the socio-political and is also concerned about the risk of internationalization of the crisis

FENAMH said it found the incapacity of the public authorities, the executive, the legislature and the judiciary to fulfill their constitutional missions and "[...] condemn the acts of violence and the looting scenes recorded during the opposition demonstrations."

It believes that the address of President Jovenel Moïse did not convince the political actors, nor calm the spirits," eEmphasizing that "the real issues have not been addressed."

For the Federation the internationalization of the Haitian crisis represents a threat to national sovereignty and strongly encourages the Head of State to find a solution with all the forces of the Nation.
