Haiti - Reconstruction : 500 permanent houses for Cabaret

The Mission of Hope Haiti (MOH Haiti), a charitable religious organization announced Friday having officially launched at Cabaret (north of the capital) a project of 500 permanent houses which, ultimately will provide shelter at low cost to about 2,500 people, many of whom are the victims of the earthquake of January 2010.

The land of 120 acres was given by the Government of Haiti to the MOH Haiti. So far, nearly 100 new houses have been built and $1.2 million have been disbursed by donors for this project which will run until December 2012. The total cost of this project, undertaken as part of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) is $3 million.

The project of the MOH Haiti will be composed of 500 simple houses in pastel shades, each with fruit trees to provide food and additional source of income for families," declared Jay Cherry, who coordinates the project for the charity based in Fort Myers, Florida. Residents pay a monthly minimum that the organization intends to use to provide services to the community.

A project greeted with joy by the Cabaretains. A good news for a population exasperated by the slow pace of the reconstruction.
