Haiti - Justice : Launch of the national strategy against impunity for crimes of the past 12/12/2019 09:23:45
The National Committee for Transitional Justice announces the launch of a national strategy that sheds light on the challenges and opportunities to face the crimes of the past. The strategy focuses on the non-judicial mechanisms of transitional justice, which offers formulas to combat past crimes, such as the search for truth to highlight violations committed during specific periods. This document is the product of more than two years (March 2017 to October 2019) of consultations with civil society organizations, local and international experts, State actors and development agencies and donors. The goal is to situate transitional justice in the current political and social context to shed light on what can be done to address the crimes of the past. The strategy presents methods and concrete activities around three priorities : The development of knowledge bases of local organizations; Advocacy ; Awareness. This document provides a framework for starting a long-term process and is not a work plan or project. Civil society has decided that the struggle for human rights and the fight against impunity can not succeed without addressing the crimes of the past and in this perspective the National Committee for Transitional Justice exists to assume the coordination of this work on all the territory.
