Haiti - Economy : The country is moving towards a negative GDP estimated between -0.5 and -1.2%

Haiti's 2019 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) forecasts differ in their importance but all agree that GDP will be negative this year.

After the estimates of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) in the last quarter (July to September) which estimated the GDP in a range between 0% and -0.6%, it is now the turn of the Commission Economic for America and the Caribbean (CEPAL), in its latest report to revise down its 2019 growth forecasts for the region's economies.

For Haiti, CEPAL goes from an estimated growth last November of +0.5% expected to a negative estimate which could reach -0.7%

Recall that the International Monetary Fund, for its part, is much more pessimistic, believing that Haiti could suffer a decrease in its GDP of around -1.2% in 2019.

Furthermore, CEPAL foresees a regional trend of slow growth in 2020, and underlines that from 2014 to 2020 will be the period which will record the weakest growth in the region during the last 70 years.
