Haiti - FLASH : The National Disarmament Commission issues an ultimatum

Following the arrest of the arms dealer Arby Frantz Larco on December 24, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29607-haiti-flash-dismantling-of-a-large-network-of-weapons-and-ammunition.html and the seizure of a list of buyers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29651-haiti-flash-a-list-of-buyers-seized-from-the-arms-trafficker-larco.html , Jean Rebel Dorcénat, the spokesperson of the National Commission for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (CNDDR), had asked the buyers to voluntarily hand over the illegal weapons and ammunition purchased, giving the assurance of total confidentiality.

Monday, January 6, Jean Rebel Dorcena took stock of this voluntary appeal and presented to the media a small arsenal bought from Larco, voluntarily handed over by an entrepreneur whose identity remained confidential, who acquired it to protect his business, said Dorcena.

An arsenal which included in particular : 4 M4 assault rifles, one of which has the capacity to launch grenades, 240 cartridges of caliber 7.62 mm, 703 cartridges of caliber 5.56 mm, 150 cartridges of caliber 9 mm, 11 magazines for M4, capacity 30 cartridges, 3 capacity magazines 100 cartridges, lifejackets, 15 37 mm grenades for M4 and 7 stun grenades.

However, a single surrender of weapons is an insufficient result for the Commission, which issued a one-week ultimatum to all buyers who obtain arms and ammunition from the trafficker Larco to return these materials, ensuring their anonymity and that they will not be reported to the police.

The Commission recalled that it has enough information about the buyers to bring justice to justice if they refuse to voluntarily hand over illegally purchased weapons and ammunition within a week.
