Haiti - Carnival 2020 : Beginning of pre-carnival activities

The Port-au-Prince Municipal Administration announces that the number of pre-carnival Sundays has been set at 5. The festivities will start on Sunday January 19, 2020 and will end on Sunday February 16, 2020.

During these Sundays, the parade is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and finish at 11:00 p.m. A limited number of DJs will be allowed to participate in Sundays. No more than 8 floats will be allowed to parade (priority will be given to regulars specifies the town hall).

The Municipal Administration once again reminds the DJs and animators accompanying them that obscene remarks as well as foreign music are completely prohibited on the carnival route and that any contravener to these rules will be liable to a fine.

In addition, the town hall of Port-au-Prince wishes to point out that unauthorized vehicles cannot circulate on the route. Vehicles parked within the parade route will only be allowed to move after the last musical float has passed. The same restriction applies to street vendors (wheelbarrows and carts). These must be stationary.

Finally, the Port-au-Prince Communal Administration recalls that the carrying of firearms (except for police officers on identified duty) and knives is strictly prohibited.

Recall that the National Carnival 2020 will take place this year in the capital Port-au-Prince on February 23, 24 and 25, 2020 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29781-haiti-culture-the-national-carnival-2020-will-be-held-in-port-au-prince-official.html around the theme "Ann pote kole pou Ayiti dekole".
