Haiti - WEATHER ALERT : Thunderstorms observed along the axis on the coast of Jacmel

The atmospheric disturbance [surface trough] is found this morning totally on Haiti. However the air mass associated with it is still very wet to the point that some thunderstorms are already observed along the axis including on the coast of Jacmel.

A slight ciculation from the southwest makes that it derives on Haiti today. Following the daytime heating and the presence of this "wet field" (champ humide) the convective activity will be more important to give more light to moderate showers and scattered thunderstorms for the whole country and particularly for the southern peninsula of Haiti today and tomorrow.

Due to the cumulative rainfall already registered and facing the supersaturation of the soil, the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management and Disaster (SPGRD) maintains this Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 10 am the phase of alert to the level of orange vigilance (ie impact risk of moderate to severe) to heavy rains and announces the launch of National Plan for Risk Management and Disaster (PNGRD) face to the threats of heavy rain with risk of river flood, rockfalls, landslide, collapse and flooding for all departments including the West, Artibonite, South, South-East, Grand'Anse, North-West, North and North-East.

The National Meteorological Center (CNM) in conjunction with the DPC and the SPGRD ask the population of the areas at risk of rockfalls, landslides and flooding, to stay vigilant and strictly implement the following safety guidelines.
