Haiti - Politic : Two electrification and waste management projects funded by Japan

As part of the Haiti-Japan cooperation and the Rural Electrification and Empowerment of Women project (ERAF) funded by Japan, the communes of Vallières, Capotille and Mont-organisé will benefit from hybrid electrification micro-systems based on solar energy that can power their urban and rural spaces.

These micro-networks will make it possible to connect around 2,500 households through a prepaid system during the first phase of the project. Once the networks are established, the number of connections will increase according to demand and management will be ensured by a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the various stakeholders.

In addition, the project to Strengthen the Solid Waste Management System (GDS) where Ouanaminthe is one of the target communes, also funded by the Japanese Government, will strengthen and support the Ouanaminthe Town Hall in the acquisition of several equipment including compression trucks that will be used to clean up the city as well as the development of a landfill site for collected waste.

Recall that the ERAF project has recently completed a program to strengthen the organizational capacities of 30 Basic Community Organizations (CBOs) made up mainly of women from the target communes.
