Haiti - Climate : The President Martelly expresses his deep sadness (UPDATE 27-05-2011)

The President Michel Martelly, address his words of sympathy to the parents and relatives of the three children who have lost their lives in a terrible landslide that destroyed a house on the night of 25 to 26 May 2011 in Cap-Haitien in the northern department. He sincerely share the grief of those bereaved families.

Ardouin Zéphyrin, the commander of the firefighters of Cap-Haitien provides more details "three children aged 6 to 14 years of the same family died and their mother was seriously injured when their house was swept away by a landslide" adding that "the accident occurred in a poor neighborhood of Bel-Air to the Cap-Haitien where small buildings are erected in areas at risk."

Furthermore, the Presidency gives the guarantee that steps are already taken by the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) at the level of the Departmental Delegation so that the follow-up be ensured within the framework of this tragic event.

Once again the President Martelly asks to the population living in areas at risk to remain vigilant and comply with established safety procedures to avoid becoming victims.

The President of the Republic promises to accompany the Haitian people and renews his determination to be every day closer to his citizens.
