The Haitian Football Federation (FHF) has learned with pain the news of the death of the former forward of the national team of Haiti, Claude Barthelemy occurred on the evening of Monday April 6 in the United States https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30489-haiti-news-zapping.html after a very long and courageously endured illness.

"The FHF ask his wife, his three daughters, his former teammates of the legendary and heroic teams of 1970 and 1974, the Racing Club Haiti (RCH), the ASC of Cap Haitien, the clubs of his heart, to accept the expression of his sympathies and of all the clubs in the country."

The Federation will keep the country informed of the arrangements made to salute the departure of Claude Barthélemy.

Find out more about Claude Barthelemy :

Commonly known as "Koka" by his friends and Haitian football fans, Barthelemy began his career with the popular CSA team. He then revealed himself to the public during a school tournament, before joining the RCH, in which he was a pillar. He wore the colors of the old lion for several years.

In 1968, for a very short period, he signed with Edner Breton and Jean Claude Désir, at the American club "Detroit Cougar" in the new professional league, the NASL, which marked the first attempt to establish professional football in the USA.

Back home, he entered the 1970 Mexico World Cup qualification campaign with the formidable 1968 national team, which unfortunately failed in overtime from the last game against El Salvador.

Four years later, "Koka" was one of the major players in the qualification for the 1974 World Cup Germany, the most beautiful page of glory in Haitian sports history since independence.

After his career he took the technical orders of the Racing club Haltien team before becoming from 1983 to 1985 coach of the Grenadiers national team which he led during the elimination campaign of the 1986 Mexico World Cup with in particular matches against Antigua (4-0) and against Canada (1-2).

Disillusioned by the turn and the decline of football in Haiti, obscured by politics, "Koka" decided to leave the country to settle in New Jersey and did not even return for the ceremonies the tribute and the historic repair given by President René Préval to the "Heroes of Munich 1974"...
