Haiti - Covid-19 : Review of 3 months of social assistance 01/07/2020 10:23:52
Nicole Yolette Altidor, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) and her Director General Charles Ernest Chatelier took stock of the various actions of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) carried out on behalf of the Ministry, in the context of the Coridavirus Covid-19 in Haiti. Since the launch of operations on March 27, nearly 500,000 food kits have been distributed to vulnerable households throughout the country. To reach the beneficiaries, the FAES teams received, among others, the support of the various Departmental Delegations, the Directorate of Civil Protection, the Haitian National Police, Public Security as well as local elected officials and community leaders. The results obtained are convincing thanks to the "Door-to-door" method to facilitate the success of the project which is part of the execution of the "Panye Solidarite" component, one of the components of the National Program "Kore Pèp" social assistance. Within the framework of the projects "Restoran Kominotè" and "Kantin Mobil", two other components of the "Kore Pèp" Program piloted by FAES on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST). FAES also supplied 350 community restaurants across the country that served 69,000 hot meals to those in need. Regarding State financial assistance to low-income households, 146,149 people have already been affected by this subsidy, out of the 1.5 million beneficiaries announced https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30405-haiti-covid-19-moise-promises-food-to-1-million-families-and-cash-to-15-million-others.html, program that has started on April 30, 2020. Each beneficiary received 3,072 Gourdes via the financial service "Mon Cash" from the company Digicel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30829-haiti-social-75-608-people-out-of-15-million-intended-beneficiaries-have-already-received-financial-aid-from-the-state.html according to the targeting of the persons concerned from the Ministry's Information System (SIMAST). The Government also paid special attention to 54,144 workers in the subcontracting sector, who each received a subsidy of 3,750 equivalent to the salary for 15 working days. The FAES, on the instruction of the Government, continues to mobilize its resources with the aim of strengthening its interventions in the context of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic which continues to cause dramatic social and economic consequences.
