Haiti - FLASH : Electric scandal in Jérémie

The Jérémiens plunged into darkness and without social life between prolonged blackouts and a few rare hours of daily electricity, are at the end of their patience with the President's promises to give Jérémie at least 12 hours a day of electricity...

The lack of fuel or the central generators which fail to meet the demand and support the load are the reasons most often mentioned...

But while everyone rightly laments, the Jérémie power station has three brand new generators of 1.3 megawatts each, purchased under the Martelly Government which have been sleeping in the dust for almost 7 years !

Note that these generators were delivered without the control panels and other peripherals essential for their operation. But even more serious no step would have been taken to make operational these generators which would finally provide energy to the city of Jérémie...

President Moïse, who discovered this scandalous situation during a surprise visit on July 10 to the Jérémie power plant, points to the responsibility of the Departmental Delegate for its inaction which deprives Jérémie's residents and economy of electricity.

The Head of State has delegated a Commission to check the condition of the equipment and the power plant to see how to make Jérémie a city that operates on at least 12 hours of electricity per day. According to Conseillant Phanis, the new Departmental Director of Electricity of Haiti in post for 3 months, the generators are in good condition and the situation is in the process of being resolved thanks to the intervention of the Head of State and the Jérémiens and the economy should soon benefit from more reliable electrical service.
