Following a complaint lodged with the Office of Financial and Economic Affairs (BAFE) by a bank in the capital for scam, fraud operated by bank card, a BAFE investigation led to the arrest of two individuals, of Romanian nationality, in the commune of Pétion-ville, caught red-handed at the Dextra market, when they were emptying the accounts of customes of a bank of the capital with counterfeit bank cards.

The statement of fraudulent transactions shows an amount of one million nine hundred thousand Gourdes (1,900,000.00 Gdes) already stolen by the crooks and twenty victims.

At the time of their arrest, they had in their possession 85 bank cards and a white Mitsubishi outlander vehicle which were seized by the investigators as well as 2 Romanian passports and 2 driving licenses.

In addition, during a search carried out at their home at Street Marguerite, in Peguy Ville, investigators found 40 other counterfeit bank cards, 3 laptops, an amount of 80,000 gourdes and many electronic accessories.
