Haiti - FLASH : The DIE strengthens its passenger control equipment

The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) has just acquired new computer equipment intended to ensure better control of the authenticity of travel documents. These new machines, which came into service on October 27, will now allow travelers to take biometric data, such as facial recognition and fingerprint verification, and send them instantly to the central server.

During the commissioning of this equipment Audin Fils Bernadel, the Minister of the Interior welcomed this progress which will help strengthen the security of the territory across all Haitian borders. These measures, which meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), put Haiti at the same level of international safety standard as other countries in the region and the world according to the Minister.

Note that connected to Haitian databases and those of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), this equipment will be used to identify and deny access to the country to criminals, terrorists or any other actively sought after people by law enforcement agencies around the world.

The DIE reminds passport applicants, including those using the services of Travel Agencies, of having to come in person at one of the DIE Offices to complete the formalities for obtaining a passport (taking the biometric data) of the steps leading up to the soon-to-be-expected switch to machine-readable biometric passports.
