Haiti - Security : Beginning of the identification of SIM cards throughout the country

On Tuesday, November 3, Jean Marie Guillaume, Director General of the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL), officially launched the SIM card awareness and identification campaign throughout the country.

This campaign, which will run over a two-month period, follows CONATEL's decision to require operators to identify their customers.

CONATEL's objective is to put an end to the circulation of unidentified SIM cards in the national territory.

An identification system is already in place by the operators. The system consists of a telephone application used to take the customer's picture and record the information contained on his identification card. "After the operator has processed the information, the SIM card will be activated within an hour," explains the Managing Director.

From now on, SIM cards will no longer be activated on national territory if they are not identified in the operator database.
