Haiti - Environment : Launch of the 1st Edition of the «Climate Week»

At the start of the week, Abner Septembre, the Minister of the Environment through the Climate Change Department (DCC), in the presence of its Director General Astrel Joseph, representatives of partner civil society organizations and civil service executives , launched the first edition of the "Climate Week", around the theme "Climate change, governance, youth, science, art and eco-professions : What perspectives for Haiti in the current context ?"

Conferences, talks, exhibitions, film screening, graffiti, are among others the activities that will be carried out throughout the national territory for this event which aims to mobilize and raise awareness of more actors around the country's climate issue, particularly the many efforts made by the country in this area.

The Minister Septembre recalled "This year, despite the impacts of the coronavirus, we were nevertheless able to open some important projects, in particular : the formulation of the National Adaptation Plan (PNA), the process of revising the Contributions determined at the national level (CDN), the technology needs assessment process, the capacity building of the DNA to access the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the process for updating the GCF country program, the preparation of the Haiti's Capacity-Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT).

According to the Minister, CBIT will contribute to the establishment of a national measurement/monitoring, reporting and validation system to monitor greenhouse gas emissions and the impact of mitigation measures, as well as indicators as part of the adaptation monitoring and evaluation system, commonly known as the "MRV System".

This climate week is a major national mobilization on the environment and the climate organized by the Ministry of the Environment in concert with its partners, as a prelude to World Climate Day, on December 8. This week brings together partner universities, civil society associations, technical and financial partners to organize simultaneously, conferences-debates, scientific exhibitions, visits and events on climate change, across the country.
