Haiti - FLASH : President Moïse replaces the 3 judges involved in the coup attempt

In the official journal Special #11 of Thursday February 11, 2021 was published an Order appointing three judges to the Court of Cassation : Me Octélus Dorvilien, Me Louiselmé Joseph and Me Pierre Harry Alexis. These 3 judges replace the judges involved in the coup attempt https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32966-haiti-flash-coup-foiled-all-official-details.html retired by a presidential decree published on Monday February 8, 2021 in Le Moniteur Spécial #9 : "Decree retiring citizens Yvickel Dieujuste Dabrézil, Wendelle Coq Thelot and Joseph Mécène Jean Louis, Judges at the Court of Cassation"

Statement by President Jovenel Moïse on Twitter :

"I appointed three judges to the Court of Cassation from a list previously submitted by the Senate of the Republic, in accordance with the provisions of Article 175 of the Constitution. [article 175 : The judges of the Court of Cassation are appointed by the President of the Republic from a list of three (3) persons per seat submitted by the Senate [...]].

In recent days, a minority of people who believe they can destabilize the rule of law and Haitian democracy have attempted to seize power illegally using violent means. The truth must be restored.

The democratic process will go to the end and will not be modified for a transitional regime, outside any democratic rule. This is not how democracy works.

At the end of my mandate, on February 7, 2022, an elected President will succeed me. The Haitian people will have the right this year to free and inclusive elections in order to choose their leaders. I thank the friends of Haiti for their continued commitment to strengthening democracy.

Calm has returned to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32993-haiti-flash-chancellor-joseph-affirms-on-france-24-that-calm-has-returned-to-haiti-video.html . A few demonstrations took place, supervised by the security forces. Faced with a few troublemakers, the police used tear gas, as everywhere in the world. No serious injuries were to be deplored.

The reform of the Constitution is not my project, but that of the whole society. It concerns the governance of the country, the well-being of the population, the inclusion of the diaspora in the political affairs of the country.

I pledge to continue the ongoing reforms. Since the beginning of my mandate, the country has never known stability. Result of a set of measures that I adopted including the breach of leonine [disadvantageous] contracts that went against the interests of the Haitian people."
