Haiti - FLASH : Money from kidnappings would be used in election campaigns

Former Haitian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and President of the Zile Foundation, Edwin Paraison, said some of the ransom money obtained from kidnappings in Haiti is used in the election campaigns of some political candidates.

The former diplomat added that these kidnappers control areas near Port-au-Prince and that they have adopted the same "modus operandi" of Mexican and Colombian drug traffickers explaining "[...] in their area, they are liked. They distribute some of the ransom money to be friendly and to help too."
