29 earthquakes (53.70%) occurred at sea, which could have presented a tsunami risk if the conditions had been met;

The number of earthquakes recorded for the month of February 2021 increased by 35.19% compared to the month of January 2021, 15 of these earthquakes (27.78%) had a magnitude between 3 and 4.5 on the scale by Richter.

The depth of 41 earthquakes (75.93%) was less than or equal to 10 km;

The most affected departments are Nippes and the West, with 12 earthquakes (22.22%) and 11 earthquakes (20.37%) respectively. It should however be noted a significant seismic activity in the North and the North-West which records 9 earthquakes (16.67%) of all the recorded earthquakes.

The Technical Seismology Unit reminds the population that Haiti is exposed to a major seismic hazard resulting from the presence of active faults including the Septentrional fault and the Enriquillo Plantain Garden fault, two faults with a more or less East-West direction. cross respectively to the north and south of the national territory.

This seismic hazard, associated with the high level of vulnerability of the population, gives rise to a high unpredictable risk of an earthquake capable of causing disasters such as that linked to the earthquake of January 12, 2010.

UTS reminds everyone that earthquakes are unpredictable and can happen at any time. Risk prevention actions remain in effect : compliance with earthquake regulations, interior design of living areas, training in the behavior to be adopted before, during and after an earthquake.
