Haiti - Environment : Monthly seismic bulletin (March 2021)

In its monthly bulletin, the Technical Unit of Seismology of the Bureau of Mines and Energy, reveals that from March 1 to 31, 2021, 45 earthquakes of magnitudes were recorded by seismic monitoring networks in Haiti (local and regional : Ayiti-earthquakes, UTS-BME, RD-OSPL-Loyola).

45 earthquakes of magnitudes between 1.0 and 4.5 were recorded throughout the national territory during the month of March 2021, (-16% compared to February 54).

35 earthquakes (77.8%) occurred at sea, which could have presented a tsunami risk if the conditions had been met.

Most of the earthquakes in March occurred at depths varying between 0 and 38 km, so shallow earthquakes.

Seismic activities resumed in the department of Nippes during the month of March after suffering a small seismic crisis on February 23 during which at least four (4) earthquakes of magnitudes between 3.3 and 4.2 on Richter scale were recorded https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33099-haiti-flash-at-least-4-earthquakes-in-nippes-in-less-than-5-hours.html
