Haiti - Economy : New building for the Customs at Port-au-Prince Airport

The President of the Republic, Jovenel Moïse proceeded Monday to the inauguration of the new building of the Customs of the Airport of Port-au-Prince.

"Thanks to the commitment of the various actors involved in this process, we have seen this beautiful building rise which will henceforth house the administrative staff of the Customs."

"This new building testifies to my determination to create a friendly working environment where our officials are forced to support taxpayers who have come to fulfill their tax duties while respecting their rights and with dignity [...] I ardently encourage our customs officials to continue their efforts to ensure a continuous increase in the level of revenue for the purpose of improving the living conditions of our fellow citizens," the President told the audience, adding "I also invite the customs officers to stay firm in the post, to stay away from corruption and not to give up in the face of the onslaught of smuggling and transnational crime.

I call on customs officials to keep the level of tax revenue up, to control the movement of goods across our borders, to protect our country from international crime and terrorism that is destabilizing many Sates around the world."

The construction of this building was made possible thanks to funding from the World Bank, valued at over 3 million dollars, an amount of 472,346 dollars was also granted to the public treasury for additional works.
