Yesterday the former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, has been decorated at the National Palace by the President Martelly of the National Order of Honor and Merit to the rank Grand Cross gold plated. This decoration is awarded "for his various initiatives in Haiti and especially his high contribution to the reconstruction of the country after the earthquake of January 12, 2010"

"...in the United States of America, I really don't believe former American presidents need awards anymore, but I am very honored by this one, I love Haiti, and I believe in its promise" declared the President Clinton at the ceremony.

"The quote justifying the decoration that I have the pleasure to give you [...] eloquently reflects the view that we hold on the meaning of your presence in Haiti. We will never forget that you are one of the first international high personality who came to bring us relief [...] and since, you show us an undeniable interest in your repeated visits over the past 18 months, we are certain that this interest is motivated by your sense of humanity coupled with the proverbial generosity of the United States [...] You are a great friend of Haiti. In the field of aid, you're not only a representative of our country, you are committed and continue to commit yourself for Haiti [...] the humanism that animates you led you to get involved here in agriculture, education, housing, food, drinking water, electricity [...] Mr. the President the country of Haiti has confidence in you [...] so you are for us a valued friend and irreplaceable in the long and difficult road of the reconstruction in which we are committed [...] Under and by virtue of the powers conferred upon me I made of you Grand Cross of the National Order of Honor and Merit as a thank you of the Haitian people for what you've undertook, and that you will undertake" declared the Chief of the Haitian state, Michel Martelly.
