Haiti - Gang War : Médecins Sans Frontières puts the keys under the door in Martissant

Unable to have a guarantee of safety for its team and its patients in an area where gangs clash daily and wanting to draw attention to the Unsustainable situation in Martissant, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) had initially suspended its activities for a period of one week, June 28 to July 5, 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34097-haiti-insecurity-msf-forced-to-temporarily-close-its-emergency-center-in-martissant.html . Today, a month later, the situation continues, and the Humanitarian Medical Organization is therefore forced to shut down after 15 years of continuous presence in the Martissant area.

The Organization moves according to a strict and precise time slot; therefore she did not have time to remove neither her logo nor the other signs and identification inscriptions from the emergency center. MSF declares that it denies all responsibility for what could happen in the old buildings of the Emergency Center in Martissant 25.

Always determined to continue supporting the Haitian population, in general and the most disadvantaged in particular, after 30 years of continuous presence in Haiti MSF is continuing discussions in order to be able to relocate its emergency center in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

Remember that the MSF Center, which had 270 nationals and 4 expatriates among its staff, served a population of around 300,000 people. The care provided concerned the management of traumas, medical emergencies, gyneco-obstetrics... The Emergency Center supported 9 other health structures in Martissant and the surrounding area, whose community activities mainly focused on raising awareness of Covid- 19, sexual violence, hygiene, asthma and support for the chlorination of 20 DINEPA kiosks.
