Catholic Sector :

The Catholic Church was hit hard by the August 14 earthquake. According to Father Loudger Mazile, spokesperson for the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH), 200 churches were destroyed and 150 others damaged. In addition, 200 schools were affected to varying degrees by the earthquake:

Les Cayes :

73 schools destroyed;

51 damaged schools;

Jérémie :

10 schools destroyed;

50 schools damaged;

Nippes :

5 schools destroyed;

30 schools damaged;

Protestant Sector :

On Wednesday August 25, the Protestant Pastor Alnève Émile, President of the Evangelical Baptist Mission of Southern Haiti (MEBSH) presented a partial assessment of the human and material losses recorded within this Mission during the earthquake. According to the Pastor, at least 50 faithful lost their lives and around 350 churches and 200 schools were destroyed.

The majority of MEBSH churches have collapsed. "In the great south of the country, only 13 churches remained standing. All the schools were destroyed, nearly 200 in total," revealed Pastor Alnève Émile.
