Haiti - Politic : Launch of the workshop on the assessment of post-earthquake damage

On Tuesday, Prime Minister ai, Ariel Henry, launched the work of the National Workshop on Post-Earthquake Damage Assessment (PDNA), at the Karibe Convention Center hotel, during which were discussed, among others, recovery needs, the national land use planning framework and the mapping of the southern region

In his remarks for the occasion, the Head of Government reiterated the will of the Haitian authorities to act quickly in the efforts to provide substantial support to the victims of the earthquake of August 14 and the implementation of an adequate policy in reconstruction "We have an obligation of results and the government does not intend to let this reconstruction opportunity pass [...] I place the recovery and reconstruction under the sign of planning, therefore, of the vision of the future. I take this opportunity to review the 2010 development strategy.

This is an opportunity for the Government to rebuild the affected departments, according to the principles of planning and sustainable development. Reconstruction is multidimensional and complex. Hence the need for an integrated approach, anchored in the overall vision of development.

This reconstruction cannot be done without a real recovery and reconstruction plan. It must be based on an assessment of the real needs of the affected regions. I reaffirm my determination to endow the Government with a public policy plan for the benefit of the affected populations."

The representatives of the United Nations, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union and the American development agency who took part in this activity, gave assurances that their institutions respective were ready to support the Haitian Government in the post-earthquake assessment work and the implementation of the reconstruction plan.

This government plan, placed under the high patronage of the Prime Minister and designed by the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, in concert with local and international partners, includes all of the real major and fundamental needs of the South region. This plan participates in the implementation of strategies for the recovery, reconstruction, land use planning and mapping of this region, according to the principles of sustainable development. It is an integrated approach, anchored in the overall vision of development and the future.
