IDP camps are on the increase

The earthquake of August 14, 2021 caused the displacement of 24,400 people in the affected departments including Nippes, South and Grand'Anse, says the International Organization for Migration (IOM). IOM has identified 33 sites (IDP camps) in the Sud department with 16,900 people, 15 in Nippes with 6,000 people and 10 others in Grand'Anse with 1,500 people.

Cleaning up Jalousie

As part of the actions of the Ministry of the Environment to strengthen the resilience of communities in the face of the hurricane season, the Minister of the Environment James Cadet visited the district of Jalousie located in the heights of Pétion-ville where Cleaning work has already been initiated pending the launch of major cleaning and sediment removal operations from the retention basins of the Cerisier and Loé-Menard ravines in Juvénat and along the entire Bois-de-Oak ravine.

Border market, anti-covid operations

The Corps Specialized in Security of Land Borders (Cesfront) and members of the Army and intelligence of the Dominican Republic this week intensified anti-Covid operations so that Haitian and Dominican traders use masks and observe physical distancing in the border market.

AUF : Support from university institutions affected by the outbreak

On Wednesday September 1, Saulo Neiva, the Director of the regional office of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) informed Marie Lucie Joseph, the Minister of National Education, that an AUF support fund in support of the Grand Sud will be made available to Haiti in order to support the affected university institutions, specifically the public universities in the regions of Les Cayes, Nippes and Grand-Anse as well as Notre-Dame University. The official announcement will be made shortly by the Rector of AUF, in consultation with Minister Joseph.
