Haiti - Politic : Speech by the Prime Minister a.i. to the United Nations General Assembly (Video)

On Saturday September 25, 2021, Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry intervened by videoconference during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly

In his speech the Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry, wished that a lasting solution be found to the "migratory problem", inviting the international community to urgently improve "the living conditions in the countries providing political or economic refugees".

Recalling "In recent days, the images of the treatment of several of my compatriots on the border between Mexico and the United States have shocked more than one https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34807-haiti-politic-dhs-does-not-tolerate-abuses-against-migrants.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34799-haiti-usa-democrat-nancy-pelosi-in-defense-of-haitians-stranded-at-the-mexican-border.html . Without wishing to contest the right of a sovereign State to control the accession of foreigners to its territory or to return to their country of origin, those who enter illegally there, we believe that many countries today prosperous, have been built by successive waves of migrants and refugees. This problem of migrants should remind us that human beings, fathers and mothers of families will always flee misery and conflicts and seek to offer better living conditions to their offspring. Migration will continue as long as there are areas of prosperity on our planet, while most of the world's population lives in precariousness, sometimes extreme, with no prospect of a better life."

The Prime Minister also spoke of his action at the head of the Government and indicated that his priority is to allow the country to return to normal functioning. He mentioned meetings and discussions with all sectors of national life, with a view to the organization of credible, transparent and inclusive general elections "as soon as possible".

Ariel Henry reiterated his determination to do everything possible to find the co-authors, accomplices and sponsors of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse ensuring that "absolutely nothing, no political maneuver, no media campaign, no distraction, will be able to distract me from this objective : to do justice to President Moïse" he recognized that the current judicial investigation was difficult because of its transnational dimension and formally requested mutual legal assistance

Following the earthquake of August 14, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34681-haiti-earthquake-latest-assessment-of-civil-protection.html the Prime Minister, praised "the spontaneous impetus of solidarity" of the international community and called on the latter to continue to support Haiti in the reconstruction process for which it is also important to allow the economy to recover and to attract both national and foreign investment.

"Our population is young, it needs decent jobs and better prospects," said the Prime Minister, who concluded on the need for "strong and always renewed" multilateralism.
