The Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Group, made up of 46 economies, will take an average of three years to return to pre-pandemic economic levels , after experiencing the worst growth figures in three decades, analyzes a report published in September 2021, prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In 50 years, only 6 countries have left the list of LDCs (Botswana in 1994, and after the year 2000: Cape Verde, the Maldives, the Samoa Islands (Oceania), Equatorial Guinea and in 2020 the Vanuatu archipelago. (South Pacific).

The economy of the LDCs, where around 1 billion people live), accounts for less than 1/100 of world trade (0.13% over the past 10 years).

UNCTAD estimates that these economies must increase their investments by 9% per year to eradicate extreme poverty, and much more to achieve double the weight of their industry in the economy and stop depending on raw materials for their growth.
