Haiti - FLASH : Referendum and elections in early 2022 (dixit Ariel Henry) 29/09/2021 09:36:00
On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in an interview with the Associated Press (AP), Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry said he planned to hold a constitutional referendum before February 2022 and that he hoped to hold presidential and legislative elections after. Henry asserted that "[...] the referendum is a priority" as most political figures and civil society leaders reject the current Constitution, saying "The elections must take place as soon as possible" lamenting the lack of confidence of the Haitians "people don't believe what is said." In an interview on CNN the same day, Ariel Henry said much the same "[...] We will be reviewing the Constitution in the first months of next year and the elections will be held immediately thereafter," adding "The train has been derailed for some time in Haiti. We want to move as quickly as possible towards the restoration of democracy through elections."
