Haiti - Sports : FIFA mission for the development of football in Haiti

Marlon Glean, Development Executive and Jordan Victoire, Development Coordinator for the Caribbean region, based in Barbados, carried out a mission in Haiti to work on the development of football through the FIFA "Forward" program whose a new cycle (2022-2026) will begin in 2022.

During their mission they had an important meeting with the two remaining members of the Normalization Committee of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), Ms. Monique André, Me Yvon Sévère and also with the Secretary General Carlo Marcelin. They explained to officials that their presence in Haiti was proof that FIFA did not intend to abandon the country despite a tense socio-political situation and an alarming climate of insecurity.

On October 18, 2021, the functioning of the FIFA Goal Center in Croix-des-Bouquets, the strengthening of the administrative structure and the improvement of the living conditions of young athletes were on the agenda. The idea of creating new centers in other parts of the country was also discussed.

Haiti's participation in recent international competitions (FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, 2021 Gold Cup and Challenge Series for the U15 of both sexes) were discussed. Remember that in the absence of sponsors, the activities of our national teams are largely funded by the FIFA "Forward" program.

On October 19, after visiting the new premises of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) in Delmas 60, funded by FIFA, it was about the life of clubs in Haiti, the possible resumption of the various competitions of the FHF, the organizational structure of the National Championship and refereeing.

Note that without the intervention of FIFA, Haiti would not be able to host its opponents for the Qatar 2022 World Cup (Belize, Nicaragua, Canada) at the Sylvio Cator Stadium, which is why on October 20 the day began with the satisfactory evaluation of the installation of the new synthetic turf by the Dutch firm "Edel Grass" at a cost of more than 250,000 US dollars. With a high-end playing surface, Haiti is able to accommodate any high standard opponent.

The rest of the day was devoted to a rigorous verification of the use of funds allocated by FIFA to the FHF. Note that all the meetings took place in the presence of Ms. Erchell Duvert, FIFA's finance and administration attaché to the Haitian Football Federation.
